(Which is idolatory)

Colossians 3:5

Seeking the things that are above,
she shunned the glitter-flash signs
and jingle-fuzzed messages
that reverberate insistently
in controlled atmosphere places
of convenience and comfort.
Dressing for practical warmth,
rather than adornment,
her singular style emerged from within,
challenging an array of veneer-thin
fashionable superficialities.
She did not despise the earth,
rather she loved it truly, deeply;
feeling the pain of its waste,
weeping at the degradation
of those who ravenously consume it.
Soon there will be nothing left.
The fearful greed of so many
fellow mortals distressed her.
She was not religious,
but knew that the desperate desire
for earthly security
was the thing to be resisted
most determinedly;
was that which kept the soul
from soaring.
